Domaine Spiropoulos Vineyards & Winery makers of Organic and Vegan Wine
We’re completely biased since this is my pre-Ellis Island surname as it is spelled in Greek. Also Domaine Spiropoulos just happens to make consistently tasty wines that happen to be organic and vegan.
The Spiropoulos family (no relation?), closely associated with winemaking since 1860, has also been pioneering in the production of organic viticulture since 1993, receiving a certificate from the Greek government in 1996. With careful attention and sensitivity to the environment they have gone to great lengths to create the ideal conditions for the production of their wines. During much of the nineties, a focus on the development of varietal character helped establish a distinct stylistic orientation towards white wines of maximum aroma and extraction.
The Spyropoulos estate in the Peloponnese (that’s where the “-opoulos” comes from, it’s possessive indicating “of the Peloponnese”) occupies prime vineyard area in Artemisio, on the picturesque plain that comprises the northern Mantinia appellation zone. The estate now features 50 hectares planted with the indigenous cultivars Moschofílero, Mavroúdi, Agiorgítiko and Lagórthi as well as Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
