I Heart Mom to Death!

With Barack Obama poised to not only capture the presidency but also to supplant mom’s everywhere on tattoos everywhere, we turn your attention to these top ten tats:

NUMBER 10:

Well-rendered anatomically correct heart, but “Mother” is far too formal for a tat we think. Also low marks for being on wrinkly skin and for putting an image in our mind’s eye we’d rather hadn’t had inserted there.

NUMBER 9:

Again the “Mother” no-no, but an improvement on leaving the blood and gore to our imaginations. Nice use of the aorta as a sort-of olympic torch of mommy love.

NUMBER 8:

Too much going on. And is this your mom’s heart or the family crest? Thanks for deploying the word “mom” though! Finally…

NUMBER 7:

Aww, you’re the fruit of her loins and she’s your angel. We like the sense of motion on this one as if the wings had just fluttered into this position with the detached halo following along. However, please refer to Number 8 — busy, busy…

NUMBER 6:

Ahhh, simplicity on a neutral canvas of caucasian epidermis. Seems a touch unfinished and the colors don’t pop like how one would “heart” mom.

NUMBER 5:

Points for “it’s never too early to start.”

NUMBER 4:

Organic and earthy, simple and sincere. We likey.

NUMBER 3: ”

“A” for honesty concerning the hostility we might feel every now and then about dear old mom. And the un-susty psychedelic imagery gets a pass for having a Himalayan Buddhist tangka painting sensibility in the use of line and color; we really like how the finger “sign of the devil” is counterbalanced by the use of blue, the color in Himalayan art signifying peace and tranquility.

NUMBER 2:

Gets the silver for its classic design and execution. Great use of color and the flames strike just the right note balancing passion and iconic imagery.

NUMBER 1:

Wow. This really has all the right elements we were looking for above and a few kickers that we really like: a) real charm, humor and originality (hello: cornucopia of gingerbread man, valentine’s day “love you” candy, and curve-ball Halloween pumpkin carving?) b) clean lines, bright colors, cheery flower c) placement: sexy chick stomach d) it’s probably a temporary tattoo.
