Greenpeace Video Puts an iPhone and Steve Jobs Under the Knife
Has Steve really Reinvented the Phone? asks this bouncy two-minute video. Translation: anyone who truly innovates a mobile handset will do so with the environment in mind, most specifically, by implementing Cradle To Cradle practices for limiting or replacing toxic materials while taking responsibility for the entire life-cycle of the product (from manufacture through recycling in the technosphere.)
On May 2, 2007 just prior to the iPhone launch, Steve Jobs published A Greener Apple stating:
I was surprised to learn that in many cases Apple is ahead of, or will soon be ahead of, most of its competitors in these areas.
Upon disassembling the iPhone, Dr. David Santillo, Senior Scientist at the Greenpeace Research Laboratories discovered something quite to the contrary:
To review, that’s: brominated flame retardants (BFRs), chlorine, pthalate-rich PVC.
Nokia has all their new mobile phones PVC free.
Sony Ericsson and Motorola have both removed some of the worst chemicals from their phones.

Missed call: the iPhone’s hazardous chemicals, When will promises of a greener Apple bear fruit?
