Raising nearly $60,000 and attracting an energetic crowd of over 300 people, ASC’s Safer Sex In The City fundraiser in June was a fabulous success. The annual signature event promotes safer sex in the age of AIDS and celebrates ASC’s pioneering work in HIV prevention and service delivery.

Kevin Aviance

Art. Music. Performance. Politics. Fashion. Illusion. Drama. All come together in the body, the sound, and the presentation of the “entity” Kevin Aviance. With two albums under his designer belts, four #1 Billboard Dance hits, over 10 groundbreaking music videos, and a fan base stretching from New York to Tokyo, Kevin Aviance is a force that cannot be denied.

His innovative, gender bending, avant-garde style has made him a “style icon” in the world of high fashion, his live raw energy and impeccable dancing have turned him into a “dance icon” in the dance music scene, and his proud presence on the gay scene has solidified his status as a “gay icon” for the global gay community.

Kevin has most recently been made into a “political icon” in the fight for human rights when he was the victim of a hate crime in New York City on June 10, 2006. Because of Kevin’s celebrity, he was able to bring a much needed visibility to a growing issue in the U.S. The incident spawned a maelstrom of press from NBC, BCS, Fox, CNN, AOL to the New York Times, putting Kevin on the front lines (and the front page) of a cultural war. Kevin handled himself with his usual courage and power, claiming that even though his jaw was wired shut from for the time being, he would still come out to perform for “the kids” on Gay Pride. And there he was, sitting atop an elephant at the 2006 Gay Pride Parade in New York City.

Vic Latino

In a few short years, radio superstar Vic Latino has achieved what very few other radio personalities accomplish. He reached #1 status in the toughest radio market in the nation (New York), appears regularly on network TV (ABC, NBC, Fox), and landed an appearance on the Ellen Show. He’s the celebrity DJ for the Armani Exchange and the celebrity spokesperson for the Latino Royals clothing line. With a new show on XM Radio, his seventh CD out in January, and a recent partnership with the New York’s acclaimed Matteo’s restaurant, Vic Latino has no plans of slowing down in 2007.

DJ Jackie Christie
Jackie Christie has appeared at some of the most sought-after clubs in the country, including the Limelight, Storm Raves, NASA at The Shelter, the Tunnel, Life, Studio 54 (hosted by Bacardi and Details Magazine), as well as weekly residencies at New York’s premiere club Spa. Jackie’s skills, reputation, and passion for people have also earned her spots spinning alongside Sasha, Digweed, Moby, Carl Cox and hosting the closing party of Club Universe with Cindy Lauper in San Francisco. Jackie’s music has been in “Beauty Shop,” starring Queen Latifah, “Street Time” series on Showtime, Jenna Jameson’s “One Hundred Hottest Hotties” on VH1, and on MTV’s “The Grind.”

“Avant-gay” dance group, Dazzle Dancers, ended the evening with a big, sparkly finish.
