NRDC presents Bob Edwards interviewing NRDC trustee Robert Redford about his film career and his environmental activism. Recorded in New York City, June 2009. This event was sponsored by two generous, anonymous NRDC members.
I attended this back in June. Interesting to see Redford’s resigned realism. Especially vis-a-vis the snails pace (no disrespect meant my snails) endemic to the political process in Washington. Most interesting are the story he tells about a substitute teacher he had in grade school that changed his life — I wonder if that person ever knew the effect he had on Redford — as well as the disillusionment with a cliché turn of phrase that is miraculously at the core of Redford’s life, work and environmental activism: It doesn’t mater whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. “Well that’s a lie” Redford says. And paraphrasing, it is the powers that be, the Cheney’s that want to win at all cost and that’s precisely all that they care about. Winning.
