Soldiers exposed to repeated bomb blasts can develop debilitating brain injuries over time.
CNN reports on a U.S. soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and after being subjected to multiple bombings, developed the symptoms of Parkinson’s and eventually committed suicide. Lieutenant Colonel Ray Reevus (sic?) had been repeatedly sent back to duty despite serious injuries which doctors believe were essentially destroying his brain slowly. After being sent back to the States and, according to his wife’s congressional testimony included in the video clip, languishing alone in a room without mental therapy, he eventually received psychological treatment.
Another reason for early intervention and prevention.
As of May, the Defense Department estimates that over 48,000 military men and women have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury.
