Video segment from the immensely popular television program Top Gear on BBC Two. The car was built in the 1960s and seems to be curiously handy in today’s world – the Susty Auto!
The Peel 50, or P50, is a three-wheeled microcar manufactured in 1963 and 1964 on Isle of Man by the Manx Peel Engineering Company. John Thompson takes this mini motor vehicle for a spin in a London congestion zone — although the P50 gets 100 miles to the gallon, our host still needs to pay a congestion charge while the camera vehicle, a Lexus 4 x 4, doesn’t as it is a hybrid!
FYI: The John Thompson who appears in the clip is a well known BBC radio and game show host.
