Soon the NY400 Fleet of Dutch bikes will be officially handed over to Recycle-A-Bicycle to further promote bicycle use as a sustainable way of transportation in New York City. Twelve of those bright orange Batavus bikes will be auctioned off on December 14th to raise funds for Recycle-A-Bicycle’s educational programming of the NY400 bikes.
The NY400 biking program is a great incentive to promote New York City’s growing biking culture. The bikes were part of several bike sharing programs, such as Summer Streets in August and the NY400 Week in September. On Monday, November 23 the 200 bright orange Dutch Batavus bikes will be officially handed over to Recycle-A-Bicyle. The ceremony will take place at Brooklyn New School in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. BNS is a project-based elementary school that will introduce a Learn-to-Ride Program to their curriculum in spring 2010.
Recycle-A-Bicycle will facilitate programming for the NY400 fleet of Dutch Bikes that will encourage safe cycling for people of all ages and backgrounds. Upcoming programs include Learn-to-Ride, Bike Commuter 101, Tours by Teens, Youth Ride Club, and Special Events & Tours.
To raise money for this programming, Recycle-A-Bicyle will auction off ten bikes from the NY400 fleet on Monday, December 14, 2009 from 6:00-9:00pm at Superfine in Dumbo, Brooklyn (126 Front Street between Jay & Pearl). Food and drink will be provided. For more information click here or contact Pasqualina Azzarello: 718-858-2972 or director@recycleabicycle.org
NY400 bikes will also be available for rent at both of Recycle-A-Bicycle’s storefronts (35 Pearl Street in Brooklyn – or – 75 Ave C in Manhattan). For more information about bike rentals, please contact Pasqualina Azzarello at 718-858-2972 or director@recycleabicycle.org
