Many people commonly believe “The Bright Idea” is the result of an “Oprah” show where Oprah, Leo Dicaprio, and Dr. Michael Oppenheimer asked people to go out and buy compact fluorescent light bulbs. However, Kenny luna say he was directly inspired by a Dave Matthews Band concert on December 10th 2005 at MSG, where they played the song “STAND UP.” That song is what kept him awake all weekend until he came up with “The Bright Idea” on a Monday morning while sitting at his desk during a 5th period class watching his students do a worksheet. Kenny Luna says:
I was sitting there thinking about their future with global warming, and playing around with the idea of giving every kid in my class one bulb until it just hit me- almost like a Eureka moment!! Well, my students and I are doing our part, and we are STANDING UP! together in the fight against global warming.
Kenny Luna’s has made it his mission to give one CFL bulb to every K-12 student in America — all 50 million of them — to fight global warming. If every household in America changed just five of their bulbs to a CFL, it would be equivalent to taking 8 million cars off the road for a year.
