TRIPP TRAPP® from STOKKE® The chair that grows with the child™
The idea behind this radical design overhaul of the common high chair is to provide children further opportunity to interact with their family. As a green dad, I made sure to get a couple of these for my twins and with the exception of a few minor things, they deliver as advertised. Stokke’s philosophy is that a child sitting at the same height as an adult at a table stimulates the development of confidence and encourages moments of togetherness. Hey, that’s something that upon which the entire concept of susty stands.
TRIPP TRAPP® designer, Peter Opsvik, created the chair in the 1970′s after seeing how uncomfortable his son, Tor, was after he outgrew a traditional high chair. Tor’s feet dangled awkwardly and his arms were unable to reach the table so that he simply couldn’t get comfortable. Opsvik’s aim was to ergonomically design a chair for children of all sizes to be able to sit in a natural way at the family table with their elbows at table height. TRIPP TRAPP® is fully adjustable in both height and depth, and is the first high chair that can grow with your child. The chair pulls up to the family table so kids begin as early as possible to interact with grown-up furniture and grown-up people. The TRIPP TRAPP® is desinged for use starting around 6 months and is adaptapble to be used through adulthood. It does this with seat and footrest that are adjustable to the size of your child and is constructed of wood designed to hold up to 300 Lbs. Because it’s designed to last, this makes it a sustainable option since you won’t have to junk the chair after a few years of use.
Our Family’s Stokke High Chair Highlights from our own experience!
From my experience with our twins, if you purchase the separate baby rail, you need to coordinate the height of your dining table so that it can slip under the table top. Watch not to pinch babies fingers when sliding the Tripp Trapp up to the table (but I never would be so careless ; ). Also, the cushion available for purchase separately is not really necessary for baby’s comfort and have found that they invariably get food stained as my kids drop and play with their food. Finally, once baby starts climbing, Tripp Trapp is basically a ladder for them to climb; this is fine if you’re supervising, but can provide an opportunity for children to get up high quickly and potentially fall from a less than safe height. Just be sure to tuck the charis away or do what we do and slide them well under your table.
Because the chair’s design is so modern in and of itself, we went with the natural wood finish, but there are 11 wood finishes to choose from. click images to enlarge »
