Some Assembly Required
Flat pack refers to products that are designed to be assembled on the user-end from flattened component parts. By forestalling the assembly process from the site of manufacture, the shipper, the customer and the environment upon which life interdepends benefit from the cost-savings and efficient energy consumption associated with shipping the product.
Flat pack is greater than the sum of its two-dimensional component parts
As the name implies, flattened items are created to be packed and shipped. The end-user then assembled these two-dimensional objects into one three-dimensional item such as a table, chair or even *wink* the Empire State Building. Unlike pre-assembled furniture, more flat pack can be stuffed into shipping containers and trucks. This is a big green bonus because for the moment, shipping is pretty much dependent on the burning of fossil fuels which contribute to global warming. Way to go green!
