Recycled and earth conscious Earthkeepers™ footwear and apparel are made with a smaller environmental footprint than Timberland’s other products. The product line uses materials like recycled PET, organic cotton and leathers that come from a tannery that received a silver rating for its reduced energy use, reduced waste, and quality water treatment. Timberland’s website indicates the specific type and amount of earth-friendly materials as well as manufacturing processes used.
This graphic indicates that one or more major components (i.e. fabric, lining or upper) contain at least 50% eco-friendly recycled (PET), the plastic used to make soda bottles. While it’s a fantastic start to reduce and delay any precious resource’s permanent trip to the landfill, we’re eager to see the company truly close the eco-loop by achieving a post-sustainable (i.e. susty) cradle-to-cradlesque manufacturing and consumer return process similar to the type Patagonia has bugun to offer.
