NEW YORK – JUNE 03: (L-R) Al Gore, David T. Schiff and Ward Woods talk at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s “Safari! India” at the Central Park Zoo on June 3, 2008 in New York City.
DAVID T. SCHIFF, who has a background as an investment banker, was elected chairman of the Wildlife Conservation Society in 1996 at the age of 59. Schiff’s great-grandfather Jacob Schiff was a founding member of what was known in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society.
One of our principal tasks for the future is to help people understand that a visit to one of our city wildlife parks is not only an entertaining adventure but a de facto act of conservation,” Mr. Schiff said yesterday. “The more we educate ourselves about the beauty and vulnerability of nature, the more likely we are to fulfill our roles as guardians and to preserve it for the enjoyment of generations to come.
