Susty interviewed co-director/Producer of Black Gold Nick Frances before the film’s Los Angeles premiere. The filmmakers have a useful little virtual gizmo that calculates where the money you spend on your cup of coffee goes. Just select the type of beverage you consume, enter the number of cups a day and viola — you can see that 90% of your payment goes not to the farmers who grow those precious beans, but rather to the coffee retailers / cafes, roasters and importers. The film’s position maintains that coffee, the second most traded commodity in the world after oil, should earn its growers as fair income.
