What Looks Green May Not Be Good
There seems to be plenty of options in our area for “green” cleaners — with signs advertising environmentally friendly methods and organic services.
Above is the newsy copy from NBC….
I went out to the Green Apple Cleaners facility a little while back to shoot at piece for Sundance Channel and got to know CEO David Kistner a bit better. Having run into David often at the NYC Green Drinks, I knew he could be a bit outspoken — now I know it wasn’t just the cocktails talking: Kistner’s adamant position is that his competition have no ethical business claiming to be green when they use the chemical perchloroethylene (perc) and hydrocarbons to do their dirty work.
Green Apple Cleaners invested about $150,000 in the custom-green-colored Solvair dry-cleaning machine that is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional dry-cleaning methods as it that a biodegradeable cleaning liquid and a no-heat drying process. This combination increases energy efficiency and creates no harmful emissions. Plus, regulations regarding other dry-cleaning chemicals and emissions are becoming more stringent. The Solvair machine eliminates that concern altogether because it produces no hazardous waste.
Cutting to the chase, the segment of course ends on the requisite false equivalence that both CO2 dry-cleaning and “organic” cleaning use chemicals. When will the dying MSM stop wasting our time with fraudulent and dishonest reporting shouldering the mantle of “objectivity?” The only morally honest way to end this segment would be to conclude plainly and simply that perc is a carcinogen and bears no resemblance what-so-ever to the chemicals in play with the CO2 method.
