For World Ocean Day today, our production company Big City Pictures put together the first in a series of videos interviewing the grandson of Jacques Cousteau, Fabien Cousteau which I had the pleasure of editing. The occasion was a recent screening of the film Sea Ghosts which uses the Beluga whales as the "canary in the coal mine" to conveying the environmental consequences that await we humans. Ironically Sea Ghosts was on the same night that the Star Trek movie rebooted its space opera franchise, so we asked Fabien to comment on the disproportionate amount of research dollars being apportioned to space exploration over Earth's oceans. He also touches on some basic concepts for how our everyday actions wind up contributing to the pollution of our oceans and how that comes back to haunt us on our dinner plates.

The Three R's: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle is one in a series of four fun "What Do You Know About?" books, for very young children. It describes ways in which kids and their families can avoid waste and be environmentally conscious. Four pages presenting activities for the tots are printed at the end of the book, followed by a two-page section just for parents that has helpful tips on how to explain this big subject to the little ones in more detail.

This Monday January 19th, (Martin Luther King Jr. day) Barack and Michelle Obama have asked all Americans to take part in a national day of service. As we've been gently hammering forth for a good number of years now, saving energy is good for families, communities and countries. In this spirit, ecoAmerica and Clean Tech & Green Business for Obama have teamed up to create a simple but renewably powerful service opportunity called ReCharge America that features a simple plan that anyone can use to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and save hundreds of dollars each year in energy costs. If you would like to be one of the thousands of people across the country who will use the 10-step toolkit to audit their own homes and then to reach out friends and neighbors to spread the savings, we say click on through to the other side. Oh, and you can save up to $600 a year. Oh yes, one more thing, and there's a nifty video with Lisa Ling walking you through the steps to make it a real eco-no-brainer.
