There’s news out of London that once again Boy George has been a bad Boy, this time getting arrested for “imprisoning” a hooker. The 28-year-old man who went to the police and filed a complaint against Boy George said that he was ‘picked up’ on a gay site, where he was also asked to come to the singer’s house on Saturday night and pose for a couple of shots for £400. But, all his plans changed for the worse the moment he approached George’s apartment: he was pushed into a wall by two men (Boy George and another friend) and then carried inside. There, he was again hit and tied by the hands to a wall. Looks like that answers that: he does really want to hurt you! Question of the day: when does bondage and S/M cross the line and become a crime?

Sometimes the whole point of being tied up is feeling like a victim in a way. And though some people get off on the strangest things, you don’t want to end up in jail for what is essentially fulfilling a fantasy. Of course, the basic rule of S/M is to have a safeword which is not “no” or “stop” but something more like “banana” (well, that might not be so good either). It should be a word unlikely to be used in sexplay and, thus spoken, indicates that playtime is over or that a boundary has been crossed. Another fast and fairly basic rule is to never leave someone who is tied up all alone at home.

As sensible a stricture as this may be, a reader controversy erupted in Dan Savage’s column last week. Savage responded that, if there had been a fire at the Boy George abode, then death would really (and finally) ruin that fantasy.
