ELEPHANT: Renee
SEX: Female
AGE: 29
CAMP: Toledo Zoo
LOCATION: Ohio, USA
RENEE’S BIO:
Upon hearing of the situation in Southeast Asia, Komar & Melamid began their first collaboration with an African elephant, Renee, at the Toledo Zoo in Ohio in 1995. It was here that Komar & Melamid first developed their method of teaching elephants to paint. After working with elephants in the States, Komar & Melamid then introduced the idea of teaching elephants how to paint to Asia and two years later founded the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project.
This rare limited edition print of a landmark work done by one of the pioneering elephants in her field has finally been made available to the masses. The wondrously talented and spontaneous Renee, who has come to be known as the “godmother” of the elephant art movement, collaborated here with Komar & Melamid to create this exquisite work of art. With this carefully selected, high quality print, the AEACP hopes to ensure that the precious early works of Renee are never forgotten.
Now also available, this exquisite mural on canvas painted by Renee herself measures 9×10ft and comes with a beautiful 11×17in photo of the work actually being created. Perfect for a lobby or museum wall. Absolutely stunning.
