Commentary on puzzling things in life, nature, science, weather, climate change, technology, and recent news by Anthony Watts
Anthony Watts is a former television meteorologist who spent 25 years on television and radio, now the proprietor of the 2008 Weblog Best Science Blog award-winning site Watts Up With That?. He operates a weather technology and content business while also continuing daily forecasting on radio, he says, ”just for fun.” Specializing in weather measurement and weather presentation technology, he provides weather stations and custom weather monitoring solutions via company IntelliWeather.
Saying that he maintains “a skeptical view of certain issues,” he considers himself “green” and promotes the ideas of energy savings and alternate energy generation encouraging others to use energy efficiently and to simply conserve energy as well. He’s eco-wonk talk-walking having put a 10KW solar array on his home, plus a 125 KW solar array on one of his local schools while a school trustee. His home is retrofitted with CFL’s, better insulation and timer switches on many of the most commonly used lights. Last but not least, he also drives an electric car for his daily around town routine.
The blog features detailed posts with loads of science-based info. The side rails feature weather graphics produced by Watt’s company, IntelliWeather. However, the logic in posts doesn’t always pan out, and the comment threads are commonly trolled with purveyors of intellectual violence. That said, some of the sci-gearheads working across various sectors of government and private industry often offer up insights that only boots on the ground could.
