The Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project has been very busy with a recent flurry of press and publicity due to a video going around the internet of an elephant drawing the outline of another elephant, a “self-portrait” if you will. Here’s Hong (biography here), female Asian Elephant aged eight years, doing a better job with her trunk than most of we homo sapiens who try our hand at painting:

CNN picked up the story and you can see Anderson Cooper and colleague debate on whether the footage is authentic or has been faked by some wily digital wizards — ah show biz. Having visited the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project website, they mistakenly identify the elephant artist Hong as Paya, who is another well-renown painter.
